CINEMA CORNER: The American't. (Warning: NOT an action movie.)

Quelle disappointment.  Not a bad movie but seemed to have so much more potential.

A. Not the action movie it was billed to be.

B. Starts out promisingly enough, but then sags in the middle and pretty much grinds to a halt.

C. Very little idea of why anyone in the movie is doing anything, which might be called 'Kafkaesque', but it comes across more as bad editing.

D. It really wants to be more of a European drama but ends up not working as a character study, a thriller, or an action movie, more of a somewhat lackluster combination of the three.

E.  The melancholy piano tinkling really made me want to slam the keyboard cover on the composer's fingers.  All this  money and the best they can do for a soundtrack is this trite motif?

F. Some of the scene transitions are amusing, perhaps intentionally, perhaps not.

It makes me really think if it had stayed true to the tone of ice coldness and brutality established in the beginning of the movie, it would have at least worked as entertainment.
